The Odessa University physicists’ research drew Europe’s attention

The I.I. Mechnikov ONU physicists’ research in the field of sensors and turning solar energy into electricity may be applied in the European Space Program. This was set forth by the head of the Experimental Physics Division of the I.I. Mechnikov ONU, professor Valyntyn Smyntyna as he returned from Brussels. There he represented Ukraine at the international conference “FP8: Space Research Hearing”.
“Project managers of the leading European scientific centers were interested in the developments of the University physicists, - notes professor Valyntyn Smyntyna. – The innovational research of the Odessa scientists may be applied in global monitoring programs, environmental safety and in space technologies.”
The scientists’ developments will help the space equipment “feel” smells, react to lighting changes and “sense” and control vibrations.
The conference “FP8: Space Research Hearing” was called for helping the Eurocommittee experts choose the most interesting projects for financing in 2012. The forum gathered over 150 leading scientists from the fields of physics, ecology, and astronautics from 29 countries.
The Odessa University cooperates with the European Space Agency in the area of aerospace and land research under the program “Monitoring of the environment” since 2004.
