The Odessa University is in the TOP-5 among Ukrainian universities by quantity of publications and their citation

The Vernadsky National Library published a rating of higher education institutions of Ukraine according to the data of the world science metric database Scopus. The I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University is in the top five of the best and is the only university in Odessa in the top of the rating. “Neighbors” of the ONU are the Taras Schevchenko National University of Kyiv, the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, the Ivan Franko National University of L’viv.
“The rating publishes science metric indexes of higher education institutions of Ukraine, aligned according to the h-index (h – number of articles, which have citations in more than h publications), and more precisely – by quantity of citations”, - state the rating’s founders. So, the more scientific publications there are and the more they are quoted, the higher an institution’s place in the rating.
Last year the researchers of the Odessa National University published over 2770 scientific works and completed 62 monographs. Students composed over 750 scientific articles (from which 200 are made without co-authorship). ONU publishes 28 scientific compilations accredited by the Higher Attestation Committee of Ukraine in the field of humanitarian, natural and exact sciences.
The Scopus database includes 41 million abstracts about publications in 18 thousand magazines of 5 thousand publishing houses.
The rating’s creators noted, that in 2009 Ukraine is at the 34th place in the world, 19th in Europe and the second – among CIS in publishing activity.
The Vernadsky National Library publishes a rating of higher education institutions twice a year.
