The elective course in Judaics is open at ONU

The Philosophy Department of the Odessa University on the first day of spring started the operation of the elective course in Judaica. The presentation of this project, called «Jewish-Israeli studies» was held at the scientific library of the I.I. Mechnikov ONU.
«Judaica in the academic sense means the complex of humanitarian research, aimed at studying religion, history, culture and everyday life of Jewish people», - explains Elena Petrikovskaya, assistant dean of the Philosophy Department. According to the scientist, Judaica is not widely researched or taught at an academic level in Ukraine. Its lack is especially evident in Odessa. As a result, students and scientists can not take part in the numerous scientific conferences in history and culture of Odessa, which are held all over the world.
“Odessa scientists are authors of a very interesting project, - underlines the first secretary of the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine Mark Dovev. – The waiving of the visa control between Ukraine and Israel will create additional opportunities for student and scientist exchange”.
The project «Jewish-Israeli studies» - the initiative of two scientific centers of the Philosophy Department (Georgy Florovsky scientific research center and the Center of religion comparative studies). The idea received support of the University’s administration. The elective will be taught by scientists of the University; financing support is covered by the Jewish Cultural Center in Odessa. The elective course in judaica will be available for all students, post-grads and lecturers of the I.I. Mechnikov ONU.
