An Odessa citizen is admitted to the OSA

  The head of the Experimental Physics sub department of the I.I. Mechnikov ONU professor Valyntyn Smyntyna is admitted to the Optical Society of America (OSA). Founded in 1916, OSA today is an international society, which unites the leading scientists and scientific organizations from over 100 world countries.
  The main direction of the society’s activities is studying and researching light optics and photonics with application of the obtained knowledge in science, industry and education. The requirements for entry include important accomplishments and a personal input in the development of science (physics, biology, medicine, radio engineering, communication, astronomy, meteorology and material science).
  Professor Valyntyn Smyntyna is the author of a unique method of creating micro electrical sensors of gas, which analyze the composition of the atmosphere as to the presence of hazardous substances in it. The scientist wrote over 400 scientific papers and holds 12 patents for inventions, edits the digest of scientific publications “Photoelectronics” and the “Harold of the Odessa National University”. Under Valyntyn Smyntyna’s guidance works under the FP7 European Committee and European Space Agency have been carried out since 2004.
  Among the famous members of the Optical Society of America is the Nobel Prize laureate Zhores Alferov, and the founder of the «Polaroid» Corporation Edwin Land.
