Eastern ties of the Odessa University

  Close scientific cooperation with Indonesia will open new horizons for Odessa's scientists in Ethnology, Cultural studies, International relations and Linguistics. The rector of the I.I. Mechnikov ONU professor Igor Koval is convinced in this. This statement was made during a meeting at the University with the ambassador of Indonesia to Ukraine Mrs. Nining Suningsih Rochadiat.
  «Oriental studies are well-developed at the University. We have specialists in International relations, culture and politics of China, India, Japan – noted Igor Koval. - Indonesia is one of the most interesting and promising regions for us.” According to the rector, common interests were mapped during the meeting with the ambassador of Indonesia in the fields of hydro-biology, hydro-geology, environmental protection, research in international security, disarmament and limitation of atomic weapons' proliferation.
  The diplomat stated that the strategy of joint research for scientists from ONU and Indonesia may be created in Djakarta, on the basis of the Center of development of scientific cooperation with the countries of Eastern Europe. According to Mrs. Rochadiat, active cooperation of ONU with universities of the country of one thousand islands may be organized beginning with March. Then, a framework agreement will be signed in the field of education between the two countries.
  The Republic of Indonesia is the largest island state in the world, with the population of over 240 million people and the area of almost 2 million sq. km. (14th in the world). The country is home to 83 state and approximately 3 thousand private higher educational institutions. Today the I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University is in cooperation with 170 universities in 60 different countries of the world.
