Glänzend means “amazing”

  The International Congress of the Association of Ukrainian Germanic Scholars (UDGV) was held for the first time within the walls of the Odessa University.
 One and a half hundred specialists in Germanic studies from Austria, Germany and all areas of Ukraine spent two days in discussion of the topic of the forum – “The German language in Ukrainian context: education and development of language competency, contrasting research and intercultural communication”.
  According to the dean of the RGP Faculty and head of the German Philology department of ONU Lidiia Golubenko, scientists shared news about the newest research in the system of German language and literature teaching and discussed the possible improvements in this system in Ukraine.
  The guests of the University were very satisfied with the reception. “Participants of the congress told us «glänzend!», which translates from German as «amazing!» - states Lidiia Golubenko. UDGV granted her certificates «for accomplishments in raising and educating students» and «for longstanding cultural and political work in Ukrainian in International German studies»”.
  The participants of the conference included the president of UDGV professor Alla Paslavskaya, deputy director of the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung fund, Professor, Doctor Hans-Peter Nidermeyer.
  The XIX scientific and practical conference of UDGV was organized by the department of German Philology of the RGP Faculty of I.I. Mechnikov ONU; rector of the University Professor Igor Koval is the head of the organizing committee.
  UDGV was founded in 1993; it now consists of approximately 400 members. The Odessa congress became the 19th in the history of UDGV. The association’s goals include propaganda of quality education and learning of the German language, preparation and development of teacher’s qualifications for teaching German in Ukraine as well as facilitating international contacts.
