Mark Twain will write about Odessa

Ken Richters, a guest from the USA, showed Odessa citizens the American writer.
The Embassy of Ukraine to the United States of America decided to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mark Twain’s death. They tried to restore the route which the author traveled in the end of XIX century. In 1867 Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn’s Father stepped on Odessa land. And today Ken Richters, Mark Twain look-alike actor, came to our city. Richters’ first performance as Mark Twain was in 1981 and since then he has taken part in more than a thousand of performances in this role. «I’m so attached to this character that I sometimes forget that I’m Ken Richters» – he says. According to Segodnia Newspaper, in his nowadays trip «Mark Twain» has already visited Kiev, Odessa. Next on his route are Yalta, Sevastopol and Simferopol.
In Odessa Richters met the rector of the Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University and performed in one-man production «Mark Twain. The Innocents Abroad». This play brought him national recognition in the USA, Canada and Europe. The students and teachers listened to the stories about at hour’s merry childhood, wild youth and deeds with great interest. Ken was pleased with hospitality. «I think that in Odessa of today many things remained the same from Odessa that Mark Twain had seen – says the actor. – I’m in Odessa just for a day but I’ve already noticed that Odessa citizens are just like Americans in their sense of humor and sincerity of heart». Richters follows the example of his character and makes the notes about his travels. He has a blog in the Internet and plans to write a book about his adventures while he travels the route of the famous writer.
